Cambridge 18 IELTS Writing Task 2 Test 2

In addition to their primary studies, some university students wish to study additional topics. Others feel that dedicating all of their time and effort to studying for a qualification is more crucial. Though each perspective has unique merits and is influenced by personal goals, I argue in favor of the former.

On the one hand, acquiring vast knowledge in a lot of other fields in addition to the major one can lead to potential advantages for many university students. The university is the environment for fostering curiosity and personal growth beyond vocational training since diversifying one’s academic interests can result in a comprehensive education. For example, taking classes in sociology might help an engineer develop technology solutions that are more sensible to societal needs, which makes them a more effective and innovative professional in their field.

On the other hand, there are students who argue that dedicating all their time and attention to studying for their main qualification is crucial. They believe that by focusing solely on their core subjects, they can achieve a deeper understanding and mastery of them. This allows them to develop specialized expertise in their chosen field, which can be beneficial for future career development. For instance, a medical student might prioritize studying medicine intensively to become a skilled doctor rather than spending time on unrelated subjects.

My personal opinion aligns with the former viewpoint, as I think in an interconnected world, diverse knowledge in various subjects is highly valued in the job market and leads to a person’s potential growth.

In conclusion, while focusing on one’s main subject is important for specialization, I believe that a diverse approach to education can bring numerous benefits.
